We’re all (‘we’ being gamers) on the edge of our seat for whatever the next project from Naughty Dog will be. We’ve technically not seen a new game from them yet this generation, since its latest releases have all been remakes or remasters. There’s also the added layer that we’ve not seen anything not called The Last Of Us from Naughty Dog in years. We know the studio is working on a new IP, but there’s still plenty of questions about what that’ll look like. Well, according to Ben Hanson from MinnMax and what he’s heard from a source “who worked on the game,” something to add to the picture is “player freedom.” “The tone was like, you are all not ready for how amazing this thing is going to be, and the tone was—I’m not going to say the game that they referenced to compare it to because I don’t want people to be like, MinnMax said it was going to be exactly like this—but they compared it to a game with a lot of player freedom.”

While Hanson avoids saying the name their source compared Naughty Dog’s new game to, he said more than enough when he used the words “player freedom.” That’s not something that players are used to having in a Naughty Dog game – in fact that’s very often been the point, with Naughty Dog historically being a studio that wanted to deliver well-executed, highly directed narratives. It’ll be interesting to see what “player freedom” looks like in a Naughty Dog game.
