A new report from Game File claims that Netflix has shut down its “Team Blue” studio, the Southern Californian-based team that was meant to be the triple-A studio in Netflix’s game development ambitions. Now, in less than two years since the studio was opened it is being shuttered, and some heavy-duty talent is being left without a job. Most of Netflix’s games have been ones that you can still play on your phone, even if they’ve had console and/or PC release. This studio was seemingly meant for larger releases, a direction further signaled by the developers it was acquiring. Developers like Joesph Staten, who was a creative lead for Bungie on the original Halo games and Destiny before he joined Netflix. Then there’s also Raf Grassetti, who spent the better part of a decade as an art director for Sony Santa Monica Studio’s famous God Of War franchise. Grassetti was even the studio’s lead art director by the time he decided to leave. Clearly, Netflix decided to go in a different path, and its unfortunate we’ll never get to see what “Team Blue” might’ve made.
