After claims about Ubisoft hit the wire, another claim proves in real time why these kinds of rumours should always be met with a grain of salt until it proves to be worth more. Responding to a claim that Telltale had cancelled its highly-anticipated coming game The Wolf Among Us 2, the studio has rejected the claim in a statement to Eurogamer. Essentially, The Wolf Among Us 2 is not cancelled, and Telltale says quite clearly that “development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues,” before saying that the team is “excited to share more” with fans in the future. “As a rule, we don’t comment on rumours and unsubstantiated Reddit threads,” said Telltale’s representative in the statement. “But development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues and we’re excited to share more about the game with Telltale fans and our community when the time is right.” It’s good to hear from the horses (or in this case wolf’s) mouth that The Wolf Among Us 2 is still in the works. But it’s also worth pointing out that the game is perfect fodder for those looking to gain notoriety through leaks and rumours as a highly anticipated title that’s been long in the works with little transparency to its development process. Earlier this summer, Telltale celebrated its 20th anniversary, and as part of the jubilation published two screenshots from The Wolf Among Us 2 for fans to gawk at. But they also didn’t provide a release date, or any release window for that matter. The Wolf Among Us 2 was revealed as a game that Telltale planned to make all the way back in 2019, ‘the before times,’ as some call pre-2020. It’s been delayed multiple times since then, with only two trailers and a few screenshots alongside statements like today’s to let fans know it is still happening. Perhaps if Telltale was more consistent with providing updates, no matter their size, rumours like this wouldn’t percolate. But since when has truth and transparency stopped anyone from spouting lies and fogginess? At the very least the quick turn-around from this mornings claim to the statement given to Eurogamer proves you shouldn’t believe everything you read on Reddit. Now we wait to see how the wind blows for the rumours swirling Ubisoft.
