You also use potions to give yourself temporary abilities and apply oils on your swords to inflict additional damage on monsters. As you level up your character, you unlock skills that make taking on a horde of enemies so much fun. There are some humorous quests, like fetching a frying pan for an old woman, and some heart-wrenching quests, like helping a baron look for his family and performing rituals to put this undead baby to rest.
