Playstation Universe Report that Sony Shuts Down Mobile Studio Neon Koi, Says Mobile “Remains A Priority Growth Area”

Sony has shut down Neon Koi, the mobile-focused game studio that was re-branded last year from its previous name Savage Game Studios. The news came in the same post/email from Herman Hulst that also confirmed the closure of Firewalk Studios. When Savage Game Studios was acquired, it was the biggest push Sony had made into the mobile space yet, and was the first studio in what would be its new mobile-focused division of PlayStation Studios. Before its rebrand to Neon Koi though, it had lost two executives that played key roles in its mobile push, including the head of Savage Game Studios Michail Katkoff. Savage Game Studios became Neon Koi a few short months after Katkoff left, and spent less than a year as Neon Koi before being shut down. Reportedly, the studio was working on a multiplayer action game for mobile, but we’ll likely never know the full details of what was planned now. “While mobile remains a priority growth area for the Studio Business,” Hulst said in his email, “we are in the very early stage of our mobile efforts. To achieve success in this area we need to concentrate on titles that are in-line with PlayStation Studios’ pedigree and have the potential to reach more players globally.” “With this re-focused approach, Neon Koi will close, and its mobile action game will not be moving forward. I want to express my gratitude to everyone at Neon Koi for their hard work and endless passion to innovate.” Source – [SIE Blog] The post Sony Shuts Down Mobile Studio Neon Koi, Says Mobile “Remains A Priority Growth Area” appeared first on PlayStation Universe.
