Playstation Universe Report that CWA Claims Sony’s Decision To Shutter Firewalk Is Down To ‘Further Its Monopoly Positio

Sony’s decision to close Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi was done in an attempt to “further its monopoly position in the video game industry,” according to a report from the Communication Workers of America (CWA). The PlayStation manufacturer announced earlier this week that it was shuttering Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, the former of which had only released its debut title, Concord, back in late August. Unfortunately, the game was a massive flop, and was brought offline while Sony attempted to figure out what to do next. While there rumours of a possible free-to-play revival, the game has now been permanently shut down. To make matters worse, it reportedly cost the format holder $200 million. Collective bargaining not only allows workers a seat at the table to bargain for fair compensation, but also a voice on the job to have a say over how workers will be impacted by job cuts. CWA plans to raise the anti-competitive impacts of Sony’s increasing monopoly and monopsony power with the appropriate antitrust regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders.
