Speaking during an interview with EDGE magazine, MachineGames‘ Alex Torvenius has revealed that the team isn’t placing an emphasis on using guns in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but instead encouraging players to Indy’s trademark whip. We do not encourage gunplay. It’s not being pushed as the primary way forward. The primary way forward is always trying to use your wits and your whip. Indy doesn’t have superpowers. Very often, you can tell that it’s not easy for him to be in a fight. At the end of the day, he’s a teacher and a somewhat clumsy archeologist. He just happens to have this passion that puts him in these weird situations constantly with enemies and traps. We’ve been trying to capture that sense that, if you need to engage in combat, it’s very dangerous to be shot at. It’s also very dangerous to shoot at enemies, because they will have an alarm system and reinforcements coming in. Indy isn’t one to use guns more than he has to in the films, instead preferring to use his whip to disarm foes. That’s not to say he doesn’t get into scraps that require him to use firearms, but he certainly isn’t John Wick. It’s good to hear, then, that MachineGames is sticking to this characterisation for the Great Circle. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is scheduled for release on PC and Xbox Series X/S in December 2024, with a PS5 version arriving in Spring 2025.
